Background paintings for the pilot episode of a new Australian IP set in Sydney.
I’ve been tasked with developing the look and feel of all the environments, channeling a sort of retro-futuristic, grungy aesthetic as if envisioned in the 70′s.
The paintings are each based on one or more photographs, and the final artworks are layered for parallax or projection onto 3D geometry as required.
I was first hired as a fulltime concept artist for Interzone Games in early 2007. The company peaked at 120+ staff over 3 studios and an American HQ before its unfortunate demise.
I worked there for 2 years before pursuing a freelance career, and have since helped hone or direct the artistic vision for videogames, film/TV and advertising projects internationally.
In 2012 I started doing some 3D work for games using Blender.
Here is a collection of art for Polyflare Interactive‘s debut title.
My exhibited and commissioned paintings see a more raw and vibrant approach surface. Without the finish often demanded of commercial work these paintings are used to convey an experience, narrative or impression of a moment in time.
Growing up I was heavily influenced by movements like impressionism, with contemporary graphic design and illustration also contributing significantly to the bold nature of my personal work.
