Hi! I thought I’d be forward and write in first person. I’m not interested in facades, I’m interested in what I can do for you!
I’m an Australian self-taught digital painter and concept artist with a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design. I’m known for my use of colour, left-of-centre thinking and my passion for art and design.
I work as a freelance graphic designer and digital artist with the simple duty of making you look good. Making whatever it is you need to promote you professionally, attract the right audience and convey the right message. The basic premise of functional design with an approach unique to someone backed by fine art fundamentals and technical skill. In other words, I can draw and paint in a variety of medium, I know about colour, lighting, anatomy and can not only spot when things “look off” in an image but tell you why they look off. Most designers lack this artistic backing, but these very skills enhance my design work tenfold. My specialty is branding, 2D art and print media – I can rebrand your business or create new logos, produce promotional material from business cards to flyers for your events, create illustrations or paintings for publications and other media, and a range of other work in the 2D spectrum. Feel free to send me an email and I’ll give you an obligation-free quote.
When I’m not working commercially I devote time to my other passion: Exhibiting.
Art is my rollercoaster. An indulgence which subtley narrates opinions, thoughts and events. My paintings are both pedantic and careless at the same time. Finicky without being precious, and obsessive about colour. Using software designed to simulate painting, drawing, airbrushing and almost any other form of mark-making, I combine fine art fundamentals with technical knowledge to create vibrant, limited edition digital paintings.
As a prolific curator and exhibitor I organised 3 exhibitions in 2009. First exhibiting in May 2009 in a joint exhibition with Nick Lowe, my work appeared in 6 exhibitions over the year, and I have big plans leading into 2010.
My technique is derived from working 2+ years as a fulltime concept artist in the games industry and being involved in numerous independent game projects with roles including game design, branding, marketing and art direction/vision.
Hard work paves the way to doing what you love, and this is my main driving force. I believe experimentation is the key to improvement, and versatility is of great importance for any artist/designer.
“With technology advancing every day, and Boxer’s skillset growing with every piece he creates, one can only imagine the amazing things to come from this emerging Perth artist.” – Xpress Magazine 17/9/09
